A Bridge

The establishment of Baba Farid Centre for Sufi Studies at Punjabi University (PU) will act as an eternal and enduring bridge between India and Pakistan as well as the two hoary religious traditions of Sikhism and Islam, said Gaddi Nashin Hazrat Khwaza Garib Nawaz Sarwar Chishti of Ajmer on Friday.

He was speaking at a special lecture on “Sufism and its Chisti Tradition”, organised by PU’s Baba Farid Centre for Sufi Studies.

Being the first centre of its kind in the world, it will help promote common heritage, history and culture of East and West Punjab, in addition to promoting the values of Islamic mysticism and Sikh religious pluralism, he said.

The new building of the Centre will be inaugurated on the PU foundation day on April 30, said Vice-Chancellor Jaspal Singh. The university will extend all kinds of financial help to promote Sufism and carry out research to trace the symbiotic relationship between Sikhism and Islam, he added.
