Ankara: An exact date has been set for a long-planned official visit to Turkey by Tajikistan’s President Emomali Rahmon, and the two-day visit will take place in mid-December in reciprocation of Turkish President Abdullah Gül’s visit to Dushanbe in May 2009.

During the visit on Dec. 16-17, President Rahmon will also visit the central Anatolian city of Konya on Dec. 17 to attend Şeb-i Arus, an annual ceremony marking the death of 13th century Sufi saint Mevlana Jelaluddin Rumi, in addition to his official talks in Ankara, the Cihan news agency reported on Friday.

A series of bilateral co-operation agreements and protocols are expected to be signed by the two countries during the visit, Cihan also said. Gül’s visit to Dushanbe followed a visit to Kyrgyz capital of Bishkek in May 2009. During the consecutive visits Turkish businessmen made $100 million worth of business deals in Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, Gül announced afterwards.

Turkey currently holds the rotating chair in the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA), of which Tajikistan is also a member.
