Friday, December 11th, 8 pm
Open Center, NYC

The Open Center is very pleased to welcome back Shahram Shiva, the renowned Rumi translator and performer, accompanied by a trio of accomplished musicians, for another luminous event.

Shiva, who is known for his passionate recitations and performances of Rumi, will perform his own English renditions as well as Rumi's Persian verses.

This special event will be featuring flutist and multi-instrumentalist John Ragusa in original and improvisational accompaniment with Rob Silvan on piano. This union of spoken verse and live music melds magic with love. Following tonight's concert, Shiva will guide the group into an ecstatic whirling experience through his unique and proven four-step method.

Shahram Shiva is an author and longtime award-winning translator and performer of Rumi's poetry. His works include: Rumi, Thief of Sleep; Rending the Veil; A Garden Beyond Paradise; and a new CD entitled "Rumi: Lovedrunk." In addition, Shiva is an innovative workshop leader in Sufism, including its famous "whirling" practice.

Shahram Shiva is a performance poet, award-winning translator and scholar of Rumi and author of several books. He is known for his rich and entrancing concerts of Rumi, the 13th Century Persian mystic poet.

He was born to a Persian Jewish family in Iran and migrated to the US at the age of 16. Shiva is the only major presenter in the West who performs Rumi's poetry in his own English renditions as well as the original Persian verses.

His bilingual English-Persian concerts are Rumi events where the great mystical poet is celebrated with Shiva's unique and passionate recitations of the timeless poetry performed with musical groups of various genres.

Tickets are: $20 (No Member Discount). The New York Open Center 22 East 30th Street, NYC
