Kashf

The Lifting of the Veil (Kashf) is Pakistan's first English-language film in 30 years.

Review
The film is a captivating homage to a Pakistan of tolerance, grace, aspiration and good humor, a Sufi-influenced Pakistan that is tragically under threat today from violent, grimly-puritanical, Saudi-financed salafism.

So real and well-publicized is the political black veil of looming Talibanization that most outsiders see Pakistan only in those terms.

If Kashf comes your way, see it and be enchanted. It’s human. It’s funny. But it’s much much more.

Synopsis
Armaghan was born out of an oath his mother made to a Sufi Pir she meets when she was childless.

She promises the Pir, who blesses her, to let her son ‘walk the Sufi path’ when he grows up. However, shortly after his birth in Pakistan, Armaghan is sent off to the US to live with relatives after his father’s death.

After 25 years Armaghan returns to Pakistan to discover a lost culture, a mystic religion, and a family secret.

His cousin, Ali, also seeks his own calling in the nepotistic film world of Lollywood and becomes engulfed by fantastical musical hallucinations -- has he found peace or lost his hold on reality?

KASHF is a story of universal relevance exploring humanity’s basic questions of who we are, and why we are here.

It is the hero’s journey as Armaghan embarks on his vision quest, meeting along the way messengers, guides and the Master waiting for him to awaken to his calling.
